Characterize the design rules for your PCB production process.
Today our TA Zach showed us how to operate the milling machine. We milled this as a test. This was created using a 1/64 bit (for traces) and 1/32 bit (for cutting the outline). We can see that at some point, starting from the right to the left, it no longer mills the grooves.
From this, we can see that:
- the thinnest gap this bit can mill away is 0.16 of an inch.
- the thinnest trace we can mill is actually very thin, but it’s better to be around 0.8 or 0.1 inch thickness for reliability.
